 From the moment you climbed up into my lap as a pup (runt of the litter) you stole my heart with your tiny yips and growls warning all your littermates away, claiming me as yours. It was pure torture leaving you for the short two weeks while you were weaned, and bringing you home was one of the best days I can remember. You were our first "baby" and you were great practice for the real thing. So smart, training you was surprisingly easy, each day we loved you more.
 As you got older, you tempered your excitable nature with a quiet dignity and helped with our daughters' as babies and toddlers. With all the changes in our lives, you were always there, for a pet or a hug or just to warm our feet on the colder days. You loved being rigged into a makeshift harness and pulling the girls in their sled in the snow each winter. When I thought I was losing you in the summer of 2011, it felt like my heart was breaking. It didn't seem like that long ago we were giggling at your puppy antics and now it was nearing time to say goodbye. You always did have a soft spot for the babies, so when we brought home Poppy, you rallied long enough to help raise her properly.
Your last winter we saw that even your unfailing spirit and need to be with us wasn't enough to drag your failing body around much longer and we started making plans. Making those calls were so very hard, but knowing your time was drawing to a close made those last few days all the more precious. Thank you, sweet girl, you were a joyful constant in our lives and we will miss you terribly.
