Buzz and I miss Blazer so much. 16 3/4 years – almost 17 – is a long time with such a loyal, faithful, always giving unconditional love, canine companion. He helped me through some really tough times and was a blessing every day. On Saturday morning he was so tired from having coughed the whole night before. His eye had some mucus on it and was almost stuck closed. I used a warm wash cloth to clean it and opened his eye with my fingers. The light in his big beautiful brown eyes was gone. I asked him to let me know when it was time, and at that moment, I knew. Not knowing the severity of his condition until his passing, I know he was holding on for me, because I wasn't ready to let him go. Being without him is like losing a child. Buzz and I are helping each other through our loss.

Holding Blazer, hearing him snore and his comfortable realm of sleep was our last gift to each other. He deserved that.

I'll hold on to the memories of the many years of happiness Blazer brought to my life and look forward to our reuniting and him running to greet me in heaven.

Most people don't experience that kind of love in their lifetime, so they don't understand my grief.
