Today is the day Crystal and I chose to celebrate Colby's birthday. It was 10 years ago today that I adopted him from the Boulder Humane Society (where he was named Scooter at the time). Unfortunately life's cruel plan has chosen this anniversary day to become the day of Colby's passing too. This barely more than a week after we had to say goodbye to our cat Gerswhin.

It was not even two weeks ago we first noticed the latest mass on our little baby bear cub. Testing last Tuesday confirmed that it was a dangerous tumor, much larger and more painful to our sweet colby cheese face than any prior. Before we could even begin to think about planning for him to leave us, he deteriorated rapidly yesterday and left us without a choice. Our thanks to our friend Dr. Jason Cordeiro for coming over at 2:30am to help us provide Colby with 1 Last Gift.

All of you have met Colby and I hope he brought even the slightest fraction of happiness to you as he has me the past 10 years. He was an amazing mutt that gave so much love, which in turn helped me learn to give a bit more too. Although he is gone, the lessons he has taught me and the love he filled his days with cannot be taken away. Please take a moment to think about the happiness he brought you, or think about how much greater an asshole I would be if not for him bringing so much love to me. If you have a 4 legged family member that met Colby, we would appreciate it if you would give them an extra hug and a treat tonight.

Death is sad, but to die without giving and receiving love is tragic.

Colby gave and received love insurmountably and unconditionally.

I will never stop thanking the world for bringing me my sweet baby cheese boy.

loving regards,
billy crystal
