Danger Grrl
We went to the Humane Society after returning from Germany, where we spent Christmas in Salzburg. A beautiful five year old black and white cat had caught our eye on the website when we clicked the donate button. The carer told us someone found this kitty in an alley, starving. It took the Shelter two months to "get meat on her bones." We brought her home and named her Wein–, which means, in German, "the night everyone celebrates Jesus's birth by drinking lots of wine." But this wild cat soon got the nick-name "Danger Grrl" because she loved hanging off the edges of furniture & generally being a wild kitty. Danger Grrl was a joy to us and to our other cats Baby and Random. We were blessed to have her in our lives for thirteen years. When she went blind, she could still navigate around the house. But she fell ill with renal failure in her eighteenth year of life. We gave her IVs of electrolytes daily, making her comfy on a special pillow on the sofa between us so we could pet her and give her treats. We'd carry her to a spot in the study, so she could soak up "kitty sunshine." I held Danger Grrl in my arms as she passed from this life into the next. We buried her next to Baby, under the shade of a beautiful maple tree in our backyard. Her grave-site is covered with a brass Viking shield Dixie made (with sun, moon, crystals & other magical objects glued onto it). She was a brave cat, a brilliantly smart cat & we shall miss her always.
